Job Summary
The job of a maintenance staff member is to perform essential tasks on the District’s buildings and grounds to maintain a safe, sanitary, efficient, and attractive learning environment.
Terms of Employment
Contract Title – Maintenance of Buildings and Grounds
Contract Length – 240 Days / 8 hours per day
Immediate Supervisor – Director of Maintenance and Transportation
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Previous experience is preferred, but not required;
- Possession of a valid CDL to drive a school bus is preferred, but not required;
- Employment is contingent upon passing criminal background checks from the FBI, Arkansas State Police, and the Child Maltreatment Central Registry.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as repairing windows, doors, locks, and floors. This may also involve painting, plastering, and carpentry work as needed.
- Replace air filters and monitor for signs of malfunction in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to ensure they function efficiently and safely.
- Troubleshoot and repair, if able, basic electrical components, including light fixtures, outlets, and switches.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including pipes, faucets, toilets, and drains. This may involve fixing leaks, unclogging drains, and ensuring proper water flow.
- Maintain the school grounds by mowing lawns, trimming hedges, watering plants, removing snow, and applying pesticides or fertilizers as needed.
- Ensure that the school premises are safe and secure by inspecting fire extinguishers, emergency exits, and alarm systems. He or she may also be required to participate in safety drills and respond to emergency situations if necessary.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain equipment such as lawnmowers, power tools, and custodial equipment to keep them in good working condition.
- Address miscellaneous repair requests from staff members or administrators, such as fixing broken furniture, replacing light bulbs, or repairing classroom equipment.
- Assist with custodial tasks as needed, including cleaning classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas, and ensuring that facilities meet health and sanitation standards.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inventory, and work orders. These records help to identify recurring issues and plan for future maintenance needs.
- Work collaboratively with other staff members, contractors, and vendors to coordinate maintenance projects, schedule repairs, and ensure efficient use of resources.
- Ensure that all maintenance activities comply with relevant regulations, codes, and safety standards, including those set by government agencies and educational authorities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or superintendent.
Physical Demands
The essential duties of this position are considered heavy physical work and require the employee to frequently:
- Stand for long periods of time;
- Stoop, squat, lift, carry, push, pull, crawl, reach, and climb;
- Exert sufficient force (up to 50 pounds) to lift, carry, push, pull, and move heavy materials and furniture;
- Work outside in hot, cold, wet, dirty, or otherwise poor weather conditions.
