Job Summary: Position is responsible for operating a school bus and transporting school-aged children and other authorized personnel safely and efficiently over specified routes to and from schools and various activities. Position conducts pre-trip inspections, observes safety regulations and policies, enforces student discipline on the bus, and performs related work.
Position operates under the supervision of the Director of Transportation.
Qualifications:
- Experience as a school bus driver or driver of other large vehicle is preferred.
- Current annual school bus safety training.
- Valid Arkansas CDL, Class B, with Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
- Vaild federal DOT physical examination.
- Verification of an acceptable driving record.
- Clearance of state, federal, and child maltreatment background checks.
Requirements:
- Obey all traffic laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to the operation of a school bus in the state of Arkansas.
- Exhibit a calm demeanor, especially in stressful situations.
- Operate a school bus in a safe and economical manner.
- Build relationships with students, parents, and school system personnel.
- Complete various forms and records, including: pre-trip inspections, time sheets, field trip forms, incident and accident reports, and student disciplinary referrals.
Any of the following traffic violations will render a candidate ineligible for employment as a school bus driver:
- Conviction of a DUI or DWI – Lifetime ineligibility
- Falsification of a traffic accident report – Lifetime ineligibility
- Received a citation for passing a stopped school bus within last five (5) years
- Revokation or suspension of driver’s license for traffic related offenses or violations*
- Leaving the scene of an accident within the last five (5) years
- Speeding in a school zone within the last five (5) years
- Speeding in excess of sixteen (16) miles per hour over posted speed limit within the last five (5) years
- Failure to pass any state, federal, or child maltreatment background check
*Refers to loss or suspension of license for reasons related to traffic offenses, including but not limited to: failure to pay traffic fines, failure to attend driving school, failure to maintain vehicle registration, accident liability judgements against, failure to maintain auto liability insurance, or refusal to submit to a breath/blood/urine alcohol test upon request from law enforcement. |
